The Feetle word game is a free daily puzzle at feetle.fun. You get a four-letter starting word and change one letter at a time, making a real word at every step, until you reach FEET in as few steps as you can.

How to play

1. Read the starting word

   It is shown at the top of the board. Everyone gets the same word on the same day.

2. Type a word one letter away

   Keep three letters where they are and swap one. The game refuses a step with a short message: “Need 4 letters”, “Not in word list” or “Change exactly one letter”.

3. Keep climbing until you hit FEET

   Each accepted word becomes the new rung, and your next word must be one letter away from it.

4. Compare with par and share

   The result reads like Feetle #3 6/5: six steps on a par-5 puzzle. Below it, 🦶 marks each letter that already matches FEET in that position and ⬜ marks the rest.

How par works

Par is the length of the shortest ladder from the day’s word to FEET. The game works it out over its whole word list, so finishing on par means nobody could have done it in fewer steps.

Par is often more than the number of letters that differ. A word with four wrong letters needs at least four steps, but the in-between words may not exist, so you have to take a detour. The first nine puzzles all had a par of 5 or 6.

Tips for a shorter ladder

• Work backwards. Every ladder ends on one of these nine words: BEET, FEAT, FEED, FEEL, FEES, FELT, FEST, FRET, MEET. Pick the one closest to your word and aim for it.
• Get the double E early. Five of those nine words have EE in the middle. In the game’s list, every word with EE in the middle is at most 4 steps from FEET, and most are only 2 or 3.
• Watch the 🦶 squares. A step that adds a letter in its FEET position gets you closer. A step that breaks one is a detour, so only take it when you are stuck.
• When stuck, change a different letter. If the obvious swap makes a word the game does not know, try changing a letter you had planned to keep. Detours of one or two steps are normal.
• Stick to everyday words. The list holds 1,867 words, so unusual words and spellings may be refused.

Hints and past answers are on the game’s own page, feetle.fun/answer. The game also has a Yesterday’s answer button. We do not publish answers, so today’s puzzle is not spoiled here.

Your stats and streak are saved in your browser, not in an account. The streak only continues if you solve the puzzle on consecutive days. Clearing site data, using private browsing or switching device starts you from zero.
